SPOKANE GIGAPOP ON ITS WAY
The Washington legislature has approved $1 million in initial funding to begin development of a GigaPoP in Spokane, the first step toward raising the region toward Tier One Internet status. The GigaPoP will link the region’s universities and national labs to the Internet and Internet2 at 10-gigabit speeds, fast enough to download a movie in a few seconds and to develop the high-bandwidth Internet applications of the future.
GAMEFEST SHOWCASES SPOKANE DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE
The Tourism Promotion area of the Convention and
Visitors Bureau has awarded $10,000 as seed money
for GameFest 2006. These funds will be used to
design and produce the marketing packages for the
sponsors and advertisers, attendee packets, and
invitations. GameFest will showcase the
cutting-edge Massively Multiplayer Online Game
(MMOG) phenomenon and allow hundreds of players
to play together simultaneously. To warm up for
this two-day event which will be held in venues
in downtown Spokane, a GameFest "Lite” event is
planned for this September 24 at CenterPlace,
located in Spokane Valley’s Mirabeau Point
Park. The event will be held in conjunction with
the CenterPlace Grand Opening and ValleyFest. Games will begin at 2:00 PM.
CHICAGO STOCK EXCHANGE FINDS SECURITY IN TRIGEO
Chicago turned to the Post Falls startup to secure its network with Security Information Manager, an appliance that tracks and identifies suspicious network activity or attacks. TriGeo was founded four years ago.
